Among the alloys known as monel, nickel and copper make up the majority of the material, with minor amounts of iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon. Nickel-copper alloy ASTM B865-04 K500 Monel Fasteners are precipitation-hardened. Utilizing Alloy UNS N05500 Bolts has several benefits, including the fact that it combines the excellent corrosion resistance of the Monel 400 alloy with the extra characteristics of increased tensile strength and hardness.

Even at a high temperature of about 1200° F, Monel K500 Washers and Nuts have nearly three times the yield strength and nearly two times the tensile strength of Monel 400, respectively. Furthermore, cold working the alloy prior to precipitation hardening can increase the tensile strength of these Monel K500 Bolts.
The alloy's strength and hardness properties tend to increase when metals like titanium and aluminium are added to the nickel-copper base. In addition to the addition of these metals, the Alloy K500 Bolts are thermally processed to cause precipitation, also known as ageing or age hardening. The alloy is heated under controlled conditions during the age hardening process, causing the sub-microscopic particles of nickel, titanium, and aluminium to precipitate throughout the matrix.


Monel K500 Screws may be more susceptible to stress-related corrosion cracking in some conditions, even if their corrosion resistance is about similar to that of Monel 400 fasteners in an age-hardened condition. It has been discovered that alloy k500 fasteners can withstand a sour-gas atmosphere. Seawater moving at a high speed exhibits very little corrosion while preserving its high strength.
Due to these characteristics, the Monel K500 Hex Bolt is ideally suited for use in the shafts of centrifugal pumps used in marine applications. The Monel k500 Hex Nuts may become fouled and develop pitting in slow-moving or stagnant marine environments. After a fairly quick initial attack, pitting on the Monel K500 Fasteners slows down.
